Abstract

In this paper, we present an MTP-based indexing scheme for fast database updates especially in the flash memory-based mobile devices. Such devices are expected to take the leading role in the coming ubiquitous era due to their portability and improved performance. Our indexing scheme has been designed to maximize update efficiency of various multimedia contents on the flash memory devices. This indexing scheme also works well with the existing file systems. Based on this indexing scheme, we implemented a prototype database search engine especially targeting various types of multimedia contents. From the experiments, we observed that the performance of our indexing scheme is not affected by the depth of folders or the number of files. This guarantees that our indexing scheme delivers good and steady performance on the flash memory-based mobile devices.
